DIY-Renovated Nightstand for Baby Boy

I was lucky enough to be given this adorable nightstand off of a local gifting Facebook page a few months ago.  I knew immediately when I saw it that I wanted to restore it and use it as a nightstand in my son’s room.  I will be honest though, it has been sitting in my garage for about 2 months untouched, driving my husband crazy. Now that things have slowed down a bit and we are back in the routine of life I decided it was time to take on this little project.
Old NightstandI recently started using  chalk paint, and OMG, I am in love with it!  It goes on so smooth, has great coverage and is pretty much fool proof. For this nightstand I purchased a pint of it, which was way too much but I am so in love with how this turned out, that I know I will not have a problem using it up.  Here is how it all went down.

First I wiped the nightstand down, removed the drawers and the hardware, and puttied the existing holes as I knew that I wanted to change out the drawer pulls. (You can see a few of my other in progress projects in the background.)

Then we paint.  Here are the drawers with one coat on them.  I added, some more putty to the hardware holes because they were still showing a little bit.

Here you can see the nightstand with two coats and the drawers with one.  Two coats was perfect for this project.

Now we drill new holes for our new hardware and install.

I am so happy with how this nightstand turned out, and cant wait to find my next piece of furniture to take on.

***BONUS HACK***

My kids don’t seem to think that my little projects are as fun as I do, so I always try to incorporate something fun for them to do to.  I decided to set up a table for them right next to where I was working in the garage.  I found a few pieces of scrap wood from our recent mud room project, got out the paints, and viola…  Happy kids and beautiful art.

I would love to hear from you.  What tricks to do use to let the kids join in on the fun when working on household projects?

I am obsessed with refinishing furniture like this! I think cute knobs or handles especially spice up the refurb. Thanks for sharing!
